Arnas Brotzu controversy sparks political scrutiny in Sardinia
Opposition regional councilors from Fratelli d’Italia, Paolo Truzzu and Fausto Piga, have raised concerns regarding the role of Dr. Steven Claudio Masotti at the Arnas Brotzu hospital in Sardinia. The controversy centers on Masotti, a vascular surgeon, who was recently added to a working group tasked with defining requirements for the region’s first pediatric intensive care unit.
Councilors have questioned Masotti’s involvement, alleging that his activities appear to extend beyond medical expertise into areas such as engineering, site organization, and public procurement. They claim Masotti has reportedly been issuing orders and managing materials, leading to questions about whether he is acting as a political commissioner. The opposition has expressed concern that this situation creates a heavy atmosphere within the hospital and undermines transparency.
Additionally, the councilors have raised inquiries regarding the hospital’s recruitment processes, specifically questioning how two medical executives were acquired through a voluntary mobility procedure intended for only one position. They argue these issues threaten patient health and the professional serenity of the hospital staff.
