Arndt Gärtner von Eden creates spacious 300‑sqm garden in Ingolstadt

Landscape designer Arndt Gärtner von Eden transformed a 300 square‑metre plot in Ingolstadt, Germany, into a compact yet generous garden. The plan replaces a traditional lawn with open gravel zones, a wooden oval deck, a grill area and multiple seating spots, using dense perennials and solitary trees to create depth and year‑round interest. The design also solved a long‑standing vole problem by rethinking the whole layout rather than treating symptoms.

A cottage‑garden style is described as an informal, densely planted garden that mixes perennials, ornamental grasses, hedges and rustic elements. It emphasizes a slightly wild, romantic look, works well on small sites, and often incorporates traditional British features such as low hedges, wooden fences and hand‑painted ceramics.
