Arne Engels emerges as key West Ham signing after £22m move

West Ham midfielder Arne Engels has emerged as a key figure for the club following his £22 million transfer from Celtic. Despite initial skepticism from supporters after a shaky debut, the Belgian international has significantly improved the team's midfield balance and performance.

Engels has contributed two assists in his first six Championship appearances and has been praised for his defensive work, reading of play, and set-piece delivery. His recent performances, including a notable display against Bolton Wanderers, have helped propel West Ham toward the top of the table.

Analysts have noted that Engels appears to be a high-value acquisition, especially when compared to the £85 million spent by Tottenham to acquire Mateus Fernandes, whom West Ham replaced with the Belgian midfielder. Some football analysts suggest West Ham could eventually receive ‘silly money’ for Engels in future transfer windows.
