West Ham agrees £22m deal for Celtic midfielder Arne Engels
West Ham United has reached an agreement with Celtic FC to sign Belgian midfielder Arne Engels for a fee reported to be approximately £22 million. The 22-year-old is scheduled to undergo a medical following the breakthrough in negotiations, which follows several previously rejected bids from the London club.
To facilitate the departure of Engels, Celtic has secured a replacement by agreeing to a deal with German club SC Paderborn for midfielder Mika Baur. The transfer for Baur is valued at an initial £4.5 million, with potential add-ons rising the total to £6.8 million. Baur, a German Under-21 international, reportedly sought advice from former Celtic player Nicolas Kühn before committing to the move to Glasgow.
Celtic's recent transfer activity also includes the signing of Egyptian winger Haissem Hassan from Real Oviedo. The club continues to manage squad changes, including the potential departure of Japanese midfielder Reo Hatate as the team prepares for upcoming Champions League fixtures.
