Arnea traditional Greek wedding to be performed in Leskovac

A traditional Greek wedding from Arnea will be presented in Leskovac on September 2, 2026, at 8:00 PM on the city square. The event is part of the ‘Capital of Culture of Serbia 2026’ project and serves to showcase the customs of eastern Halkidiki.

The performance, titled ‘Arnea – Traditional Wedding’, aims to revive and promote the cultural heritage of the Aristotelis Municipality. The ritual includes various stages of a wedding, such as the preparation of the bride, the shaving of the groom, family processions known as ‘psiki’, and traditional songs, dances, and festivities.

This cultural exchange is part of the ‘Sister Cities’ sub-program, which has been fostering cooperation between Leskovac and the Aristotelis Municipality since 2022. The partnership focuses on cultural and religious tourism, educational exchanges, and the mobility of artists. Stelios Valianos, Mayor of Aristotelis, noted that such customs can evolve from cultural events into effective tools for tourism promotion and local development.
