Arnhem increases budget for local community initiatives
The municipality of Arnhem is increasing the budget for the ‘Burgerkracht’ scheme in 2026. The subsidy ceiling will rise from 63,000 to 83,000 euros, providing an additional 20,000 euros for resident-led initiatives aimed at improving neighborhood livability and social cohesion.
This funding increase is supported by a 40,000 euro subsidy from the province of Gelderland. Alderman David de Vries noted that the extra resources will help accommodate a growing number of applications, as the current budget has seen demand exceed available funds. Examples of supported projects include neighborhood camping, repair cafés, and community meeting spaces.
