Arnhem police evict residents from Paasbergflat

Police in Arnhem have begun the forced eviction of the Paasbergflat on Bronbeeklaan following safety concerns. Officers utilized battering rams and shields to breach barricades and open doors, working from the upper floors down to the ground level.

The decision to close the building follows advice from the Omgevingsdienst Groene Metropool (ODGM), which determined the site had become unsafe. Reported issues include fire safety hazards, destroyed access doors, illegal occupation, theft of building materials, and prostitution.

The building housed a mix of anti-squatters, squatters, and homeless individuals. While some residents cooperated with the evacuation, others expressed resistance or distress over the loss of housing and personal belongings. Local officials, including Alderman Eva van Esch, emphasized that ensuring safety is a primary government responsibility.
