Arnomendi patrol vessel begins fishery surveillance campaigns

The Spanish Navy patrol vessel Arnomendi has departed from its base at the La Graña Naval Station in Ferrol to begin two major fishery surveillance and inspection campaigns. The mission is scheduled to last approximately 24 days, with a planned return to Ferrol at the end of September.

The vessel is participating in the ‘Campaña Costera del Bonito’ (Coastal Bonito Campaign) as part of the General Fisheries Surveillance Plan. Additionally, it will take part in the ‘Joint Deployment Plan’ (JDP), which focuses on demersal and pelagic species within the waters of the Northeast Atlantic European Union.

During the mission, the Arnomendi will perform several inspection duties, including verifying the presence of authorized national and EU vessels, inspecting catches, reviewing fishing gear, and monitoring closed seasons and fishing zones. An inspector from the ‘Secretaría General de Pesca’ will be on board to assist in these tasks to ensure the uniform and effective application of conservation and control measures.
