Slovakia marks 82nd anniversary of Slovak National Uprising

Slovakia has observed the 82nd anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising (SNP) through various commemorative events and ceremonies across the country.

In Žarnovica, local authorities and various organizations, including the Association of Anti-Fascist Fighters, held a memorial service involving wreath-laying at the SNP monument. Similarly, the Association of Towns and Municipalities of Slovakia (ZMOS) emphasized the historical importance of the uprising, with President Jozef Božik stating that freedom, democracy, and human dignity are values that every generation must protect.

The anniversary has also highlighted political tensions. Reports indicate controversy surrounding the Republika movement, with questions raised about the consistency of its leadership's stance on the uprising and its historical portrayal of partisans.
