Aroldis Chapman Expected to Be Traded by Boston Red Sox Before August Deadline

Aroldis Chapman, a 38‑year‑old left‑handed reliever for the Boston Red Sox, has posted a 0.46 ERA over his last 19.2 innings and continues to throw fastballs exceeding 100 mph. He is on an expiring $13 million contract with a $13 million vesting option for 2027.

ESPN analysts Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel assessed a 90 percent probability that Boston will trade Chapman before the August 3 deadline, citing the team’s sub‑.500 standing and lack of playoff prospects. Multiple contenders, including the New York Yankees, Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies, have been reported as interested.

Trade value is projected to be at least one top‑100 prospect, possibly two, plus additional pieces. Chapman’s career includes two World Series rings, All‑Star selections, and a reputation as the fastest left‑handed pitcher in MLB history, originally from Holguín, Cuba.
