Aroldis Chapman reaches 400 career saves in MLB history
Cuban relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman has become the ninth player in Major League Baseball history to reach 400 career saves. The 38-year-old Boston Red Sox closer secured the milestone during a 3-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles, completing a four-game sweep.
Chapman sealed the achievement in the ninth inning by striking out Christian Encarnación-Strand with a 101 mph fastball. This milestone places him in an elite group alongside legends such as Mariano Rivera, Trevor Hoffman, and Kenley Jansen.
The achievement marks a significant career resurgence for Chapman. After losing his closer role with the New York Yankees in 2022, he struggled through several seasons with limited saves while playing for multiple franchises. Since signing with the Red Sox before the 2025 season, he has reclaimed his position as a dominant closer.
In related team news, Red Sox pitcher Brayan Bello also delivered a strong performance, pitching five scoreless innings to help the team secure a 5-2 win against the Los Angeles Angels. Additionally, Venezuelan outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. reached a major milestone by recording his 1,000th career MLB hit.
