Aroldis Chapman triggers $13M contract option with Red Sox

Boston Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman has triggered a $13 million vesting option in his contract for the 2027 season. The milestone was reached on Saturday after Chapman pitched his 40th inning of the 2026 season during a 4-0 victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The contract extension is contingent upon Chapman passing a physical examination at the conclusion of the season. His potential salary could increase to $14 million if he earns specific postseason accolades, such as being named the American League Reliever of the Year.

The 38-year-old veteran has had a strong season, entering the recent matchup with a 2.04 ERA and 27 saves. His performance, including being named the American League Reliever of the Month in July, has been instrumental in the Red Sox's pursuit of a postseason berth.
