Aroldis Chapman triggers $13M contract option with Red Sox

Aroldis Chapman has officially secured his position with the Boston Red Sox through the 2027 season after passing his end-of-season physical. The successful physical triggers a $13 million vesting option for 2027, as Chapman had previously met the required innings threshold during the 2026 season.

Chapman’s final compensation for the 2027 season may increase based on his performance in the American League Reliever of the Year voting. Award escalators could add between $100,000 and $1 million to his base salary.

The veteran closer has maintained strong performance in Boston, posting a 1.51 ERA over 113 innings during his two years with the team. In the 2025 season, he recorded 32 saves and 85 strikeouts with a 1.17 ERA.
