Canary Islands heat wave eases as temperatures fall and rain returns

Maximum temperatures in the Canary Islands reached near 40 °C on Tuesday, with Gran Canaria hitting 39.3 °C in the interior and Tenerife recording 37.5 °C in San Cristóbal de La Laguna. An orange‑level heat alert was in force for the islands and a yellow alert will remain for Gran Canaria on Thursday.

The Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) forecasts a gradual cooling from Thursday, with inland highs dropping to about 34 °C and coastal capitals expected to reach 25 °C in Las Palmas and 29 °C in Santa Cruz. Light rain is predicted for the northern islands on Friday and again on Saturday, ending the recent heat episode.

Local forecasts reflect the broader trend: Arico (Canary Islands) is expected to be clear, 21‑28 °C with winds up to 44 km/h and no rain; Ariany will see clear skies, temperatures climbing to 40 °C and winds up to 31 km/h; Arona will have mostly sunny conditions, 25‑30 °C with gentle breezes. All locations anticipate no precipitation during the day.
