Aronia market in Poland faces price volatility and yield concerns

The aronia (chokeberry) market in Poland is experiencing significant price volatility and regional yield variations. While some reports indicate prices reaching historical highs between 3.50 and 6.00 PLN/kg due to competition among processors and potential shortages, other market indicators suggest a sharp downward correction.

Some traders report that prices for conventional aronia, which previously reached 4.50–5.00 PLN/kg, are dropping toward 3.00–3.50 PLN/kg. This sudden decline has led some growers to suspect market manipulation, drawing parallels to previous years in the blackcurrant industry where buying was halted before resuming at much lower rates.

Crop yields are inconsistent across the country. Central Poland reports decent yields, but parts of the Łódź and Lublin provinces are struggling due to insufficient rainfall, with some areas seeing yields at only one-third of their potential. In the north, fruit maturity is still ongoing. These factors have led to uncertainty regarding whether the national harvest will meet the projected 40,000-ton estimate.
