Arpav upgrades weather radar systems in Veneto

Arpav has completed the technological upgrade of its radar systems in Teolo (Padua) and Concordia Sagittaria (Venice). The renewal, part of a national program to update tools for the Civil Protection mosaic, involved replacing aging equipment with latest-generation technology.

The new systems offer significant performance improvements, including an increased visibility range of up to 200 km, compared to the previous 125 km. The upgraded radars feature faster scanning capabilities and utilize both Doppler and dual-polarization technology. These advancements allow technicians to identify frozen precipitation and more accurately confirm the movement direction of meteorological phenomena.

Following a period of reactivation in June and subsequent data processing stabilization, the new data became available to the national mosaic system in July. Static radar images have been available online via the Arpav website since September 9.
