Arquata del Tronto begins 71 million euro seismic stabilization works

Major reconstruction works for the historic center of Arquata del Tronto have officially commenced, marking a critical step ten years after the 2016 earthquake. The project involves a total economic framework of 71 million euros, with approximately 50 million euros dedicated specifically to stabilization and support works.

These works are considered essential infrastructure to allow for the subsequent reconstruction of both public and private buildings. The technical plan, developed by USR Marche with support from Eucentre and various universities, includes advanced anti-seismic engineering. Key operations involve the consolidation of the hillside through the use of specialized drilling machines, vertical and inclined micropiles, and the construction of two large underground reinforced concrete shafts. These shafts will support a system of 328 permanent active tie-rods spanning nearly 13 kilometers to ensure deep geological stability.

In addition to the stabilization of Arquata del Tronto, progress is being made in the hamlet of Pescara del Tronto. Authorities have approved urban planning variations and risk mitigation projects for hydraulic and debris flow hazards, which are prerequisites for the new settlement planned under special reconstruction ordinances.

Construction activities in Arquata are scheduled to begin in early September, initially employing 20 workers with plans to scale up to approximately 60 personnel as operations reach full capacity.
