Arraiján officials evaluate waste collection contract extension

The municipal council and mayor's office of Arraiján are evaluating a potential extension for the waste collection and final disposal contract held by Aseo Capital, S.A. The original agreement, signed in February 2006, is set to expire in its operational phase in 2027.

Luz Denia Oliver, representative for the Vista Alegre district, stated that Mayor Estefany Peñalba has been authorized since June 2026 to analyze the possibility of an extension. A proposal from Aseo Capital, S.A. is currently under review by a working group. Council members have emphasized the need to improve service quality without increasing current waste collection fees. Oliver expressed support for the extension, describing the company as “good and efficient” over its 20-year history.

Meanwhile, in La Chorrera, the local government has initiated a call for tenders to select a new concessionaire for waste services, including collection, sweeping, and final disposal, in accordance with public procurement laws.
