Arrascaeta undergoes successful wrist surgery in Rio de Janeiro

Flamengo midfielder Giorgian de Arrascaeta underwent successful surgery in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday to repair a distal radius fracture in his left wrist. The injury occurred during a friendly match between Uruguay and South Korea in Seoul, where the player slipped and fell on his arm.

The surgical procedure was led by Flamengo’s head of medical department, Fernando Sassaki, alongside specialists Roberto Feres and Edson Roderjan. The operation involved repositioning the bone and securing it with a plate and screws to allow for accelerated rehabilitation.

Medical staff estimate a recovery period of six to eight weeks. This timeline means Arrascaeta will miss critical upcoming fixtures, including the Copa Libertadores semifinals against Estudiantes on October 15 and 22, as well as several matches in the Campeonato Brasileiro. Flamengo coach Leonardo Jardim is currently evaluating tactical alternatives, including players like Lucas Paquetá, to fill the void in the midfield.
