Arrecife Municipal Fish Market to become gastronomic hub

The historic Arrecife Municipal Fish Market in Lanzarote is set to undergo a transformation into a gastronomic and tourist hub. The project, presented by the Canary Islands' Minister of Tourism and Employment, Jéssica de León, and the Mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, aims to revitalize the city's historic center by repurposing the landmark building on Vargas Avenue.

Financed by the Canary Islands Government through the public company Gesprotur, the project has a base budget of 466,601.50 euros (excluding taxes). The renovation will include a kitchen, dining and tasting areas, adapted services, and a rooftop terrace. The works are scheduled to begin in September and are expected to be completed within five months.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to create a commercial and gastronomic axis in Arrecife, complementing other planned rehabilitations like La Recova. The project also emphasizes universal accessibility and energy efficiency to create a modern, functional market for both residents and tourists.
