Arrests in Italy for Domestic Violence Attacks in Lecce and Messina

A 16‑year‑old was arrested in Lecce after violently assaulting his mother, who had tried to prevent him from going out with a group of friends. The teen threw coat hangers at her, struck her with a chair, causing bruising on her arm, and smashed a bedroom door, leaving the apartment in disarray. He is charged with family maltreatment and personal injury, and a juvenile court will decide on his detention. The mother reported ongoing physical and psychological abuse, noting she had to lock herself in her bedroom at night for safety.

In Messina, a 37‑year‑old man was taken into custody after police determined he threatened and assaulted his ex‑partner in a public venue, allegedly to stop her from filing a further complaint about previous domestic violence. The arrest followed a 112 emergency call and video‑surveillance analysis. He was placed in the Messina Gazzi prison pending judicial proceedings.
