Arroio do Sal electoral court mandate revocation interim mayor supplementary election

Vera Rejane dos Santos Braga, president of the Arroio do Sal Chamber of Councilors, assumed the role of interim mayor on Friday following a decision by the Electoral Court to revoke the mandates of Mayor Luciano Pinto da Silva and Vice-Mayor Valdir Cenci.

The removal was ordered by the 85th Electoral Zone of Rio Grande do Sul. In her inaugural statement, Rejane pledged to maintain municipal administration and the continuity of public services during her interim term.

The Regional Electoral Court of Rio Grande do Sul (TRE-RS) has scheduled a new election for October 25. However, the legal situation remains in flux as the defense for the ousted officials intends to appeal the decision to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) in an attempt to overturn the revocation.
