ARS Magazine celebrates 40 years of literary continuity
The literary magazine ARS is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a special jubilee issue. Founded in Cetinje in August 1986 during the final years of Yugoslav socialism, the publication has maintained continuity through significant political and territorial shifts, having been released under the auspices of the SFRY, FRY, Serbia and Montenegro, and finally independent Montenegro.
The nearly 400-page anniversary edition features contributions from prominent contemporary Montenegrin and regional intellectuals and writers, including Milorad Popović, Miljenko Jergović, and Svetislav Basara. The issue includes a text by Milorad Popović titled ‘Prvih četrdeset godina ARSA’ (The First Forty Years of ARS), which serves as both an autobiography of the magazine and a chronicle of the cultural and political eras it has navigated.
Since its inception, the magazine has aimed to maintain a literary space that transcends national borders, despite the changing political landscape of the region.
