Arsen Julfalakyan wins gold for Argentina in Greco-Roman wrestling
Arsen Julfalakyan, an Olympic medalist and former world champion originally from Armenia, won the gold medal for Argentina in the 77kg Greco-Roman wrestling category at the 2026 South American Games in Rosario.
In the final held at La Rural, Julfalakyan defeated Colombia's Jair Cuero with a score of 4-2. This victory served as a rematch for the group stage, where Cuero had previously defeated him 9-4. Julfalakyan's path to the gold included an 8-0 win over Peru's Ryan Cubas and a 9-0 victory against Brazil's Joilson De Brito in the semifinals.
Julfalakyan, 39, has represented Argentina since 2024. He noted that political issues in his native Armenia had impacted his motivation following the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, but he found new motivation to compete in Argentina. He is the son of Levon Julfalakyan, an Olympic gold medalist from the 1988 Seoul Games.
