Arsenal abandons major Emirates Stadium expansion plans
Arsenal Football Club has decided to abandon plans for a large-scale expansion of the Emirates Stadium. Following a two-year feasibility study, the club will instead pursue a strategy of “continued evolution” through smaller, staged improvements.
Previously, the club explored options to increase the stadium's capacity from approximately 60,704 to as many as 80,000. However, concerns regarding the disruption caused by extensive construction—which could have necessitated a temporary relocation to venues like Wembley—led to the decision to shelve the masterplan. Manager Mikel Arteta reportedly expressed concerns about the impact such a move would have on the team.
Future upgrades will focus on enhancing the matchday experience, including improvements to hospitality, retail facilities, and visitor services. The club also confirmed the phased introduction of safe standing, currently active in the Clock End with plans to expand to the North Bank for the 2027/28 season. Additionally, efforts will be made to improve stadium connectivity, specifically through 5G coverage upgrades.
