Arsenal chase Bilbao winger Nico Williams as €90 million release clause looms

Arsenal are leading the race to sign 24‑year‑old Spanish winger Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao. The forward, who recorded six goals and seven assists in 32 league appearances last season, is under contract until 2035 and carries a €90 million release clause that Bilbao says will not be negotiated. Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta is assessing the financial impact of meeting the clause and the player’s wage demands, while manager Mikel Arteta hopes Williams’ pace and dribbling will add unpredictability to the team’s attack.

Liverpool are also monitoring the situation, but Arsenal have reportedly overtaken the Reds in negotiations. If the deal goes through, Williams could become a regular starter at the Emirates Stadium, providing the club with a high‑tempo option on either flank.

The transfer saga highlights the growing competition among Premier League clubs for elite talent and the financial challenges of triggering large release clauses for young players.
