Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta integrates Marli Salmon into first team

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed that 16-year-old defender Marli Salmon is now integrated into the first-team setup following a standout pre-season performance. Salmon demonstrated significant composure and endurance during a 1-1 draw against Como, notably being the only Arsenal player to remain on the pitch for over an hour.

The decision to involve the teenager in senior training and matches is partly driven by a defensive injury crisis, with William Saliba and Jurrien Timber currently unavailable. Arteta praised Salmon’s ability to learn quickly and his courage on the pitch, stating, “He’s in and around the first team. We know that obviously the circumstances are what they are, that’s the context that is allowing him to play more minutes.”

Salmon, who previously made his debut in the Champions League against Club Brugge, is being viewed as a reliable option for the club moving forward rather than just a temporary solution to current squad shortages.
