Arsenal monitoring Monza striker Gustavo Varela

Arsenal is reportedly among several major European clubs tracking Monza forward Gustavo Varela following his prolific start to the Serie A season. The 21-year-old Portuguese striker has scored seven goals in eight appearances, placing him at the top of the league's scoring charts.

Competition for the player is intensifying, with Napoli considering a move during the January transfer window. Benfica, Varela's former club, also remains a key factor in potential negotiations. Under the terms of his move to Monza last summer, Benfica reportedly holds the right to match future offers and is entitled to a 20 per cent share of any profit made from a subsequent sale.
