Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister involved in altercation during Arsenal loss

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister was at the center of a heated confrontation during Arsenal’s 1-0 victory at Anfield, marking Arsenal’s first win at the stadium in 14 years. During the match, Mac Allister reportedly slapped Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard on the back of the head following a foul.

Later in the game, a second flashpoint occurred when Mac Allister went to the ground clutching his face after an encounter with Arsenal’s Noni Madueke. While some observers suggested a headbutt occurred, VAR and the referee deemed the contact insufficient for a red card, resulting in yellow cards for both Mac Allister and Jurrien Timber instead.

Following the match, former players Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville criticized Mac Allister’s conduct. Carragher described the incident as “embarrassing” and “ridiculous,” calling for more accountability regarding such theatrics in the Premier League.

Amidst the on-pitch tension, reports also indicate interest from Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid regarding Mac Allister’s future, though there is renewed hope regarding a potential new contract with Liverpool.
