Arsenal pursues Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes while eyeing goalkeeper Mathew Ryan

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has identified Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes as the club's top target in midfield. A verbal offer of £55 million was rejected and Newcastle, having secured recent sales of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, have indicated they have no intention of selling Guimaraes, who is under contract until 2028.

At the same time, Arsenal are evaluating options to replace departing goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Former loanee Mathew Ryan, now a free‑agent 34‑year‑old Australian goalkeeper, has been linked with a return to the Emirates Stadium should Kepa leave. Ryan previously spent six months on loan at Arsenal in early 2021 and impressed with his attitude, though he was ultimately passed over for Aaron Ramsdale.

Both potential moves reflect Arteta’s effort to strengthen the squad after last season’s Premier League title and Champions League final appearance, with the midfield signing seen as a priority and the goalkeeper option considered among four names under review.
