Arsenal sign Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle for £75m
Arsenal has officially completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United in a deal worth approximately £75 million. The 28-year-old has signed a long-term contract that runs until June 2030.
Guimarães was presented to supporters at the Emirates Stadium ahead of a pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund. While he did not participate in the match, which Arsenal lost 3-2, he has already begun training with his new teammates. Manager Mikel Arteta praised the midfielder's character, describing him as a ‘warrior’ with the leadership and energy required to help the club reach the next level.
Tactically, Arteta expects Guimarães to offer versatility, potentially operating as both a defensive midfielder and a box-to-box player. His arrival strengthens an Arsenal midfield that already includes Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard, and Mikel Merino. For Newcastle, the sale marks a significant part of a summer period in which the club has surpassed £240 million in player sales.
