Marcus Rashford faces uncertain summer as Arsenal linked in £40m move

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is expected to start pre‑season with the club but his future remains uncertain after a season‑long loan at Barcelona ended without a permanent transfer. Barcelona declined to trigger a €30 million purchase option and instead signed Anthony Gordon, leaving Rashford surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. United are looking to reduce his £17.5 million a year wage bill and have identified potential replacements on the left wing, including West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville.

Former England defender Rio Ferdinand has urged Arsenal to act, saying on his YouTube channel that “for £40 million I am sweeping Marcus Rashford off his feet.” Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and other Premier League clubs have been linked with the 28‑year‑old. Stuart Pearce also criticised England coach Thomas Tuchel for benching Rashford throughout most of the World Cup, where Rashford made limited appearances and scored once.

With no suitor yet confirmed, United are prepared to consider any offer that meets their valuation, while Rashford has confirmed his availability for pre‑season and is expected to hold talks with club director Michael Carrick after the tournament.
