Arshad Shaikh recovering after surgery for Asian Para Games crash
Indian para-cyclist Arshad Shaikh is recovering at the Chutoen General Medical Center in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, following surgery for a displaced fracture of his left femur. The injury occurred during the men’s time trial at the Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya.
Shaikh, an above-knee amputee and 2024 Paris Paralympian, sustained injuries to his previously operated left residual limb during the fall. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports are coordinating with the Indian Embassy in Japan to provide necessary assistance.
Indian Ambassador to Japan, Nagma Mohammed Mallick, visited Shaikh on Monday to offer support. The embassy has assured the athlete and his team that assistance will continue until he is medically cleared to return to India. Shaikh was India’s sole representative in para-cycling at the Games.
