Arshdeep Singh breaks Indian T20I wicket record

Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has broken the record for the most T20I wickets taken by an Indian player in a single calendar year. During the second T20I against New Zealand in Christchurch, Singh claimed his 38th wicket of 2026, surpassing Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s previous record of 37 wickets set in 2022.

Singh finished the match with figures of 2/33, dismissing Tim Seifert and Glenn Phillips. His performance helped India secure a four-wicket victory, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. India reached the target of 181 with one ball remaining, aided by an unbeaten 51 from Tilak Varma and 26 not out from Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Arshdeep is now positioned to challenge the record for most T20I wickets in a calendar year among ICC Full Member nations, currently held by Ireland’s Joshua Little, who took 39 wickets in 2022. Singh requires two more wickets to surpass that milestone.
