FIFA Presidency: Beckham and Wenger emerge as potential challengers to Infantino

European football leaders, including officials from UEFA and the German Football Association (DFB), are exploring potential candidates to challenge incumbent FIFA President Gianni Infantino in the 2027 elections. David Beckham has emerged as a prominent name due to his global influence and experience managing Inter Miami. Other figures being discussed include Arsène Wenger, the current FIFA Director of Football Development, though Wenger has not officially confirmed his candidacy.

The push for leadership change follows dissatisfaction with Infantino’s governance, specifically regarding the controversial FIFA Forward Enterprise project, which proposed selling commercial rights of FIFA tournaments to private investors. While Infantino has apologized for communication lapses regarding the project, opposition remains strong in Europe.

The election is scheduled for March 18, 2027, in Rabat, Morocco. The deadline for official nominations is November 18, 2026. Currently, former Swiss international Ramon Vega is the only individual to have publicly confirmed his intention to run against Infantino.
