Art and design explore tensions between antiques and modernism

Recent artistic and design discussions explore the relationship between historical objects and modern environments. An exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art examines the symbiosis between antiques and modernist interiors, suggesting that the visual dissonance between old objects and contemporary architectural shells can create a productive tension that enhances both.

In a separate dialogue hosted by the Institute of Network Cultures, artist Matthew Johnstone and Morgane Billuart discuss the series ‘Metrons & Logons’. The work features photographic images displayed within various armatures created by artist eva duerden. The series explores the transition of technical objects into obsolescence, utilizing synthetic-looking surfaces and industrial lacquers to challenge the viewer's perception of time and materiality.
