Art exhibitions across Japan feature Van Gogh, Shigaraki pottery, and Ryuichi Sakamoto

Various art and craft exhibitions are currently being held across Japan, highlighting diverse creative movements. In Shiga Prefecture, the “Shigaraki New Wave” exhibition in Koka City features works from 17 emerging artists based in Shigaraki, showcasing a trend that transcends traditional pottery boundaries.

Other notable events include a display of Vincent van Gogh’s “Bridge” (1888) at the Nagoya City Art Museum. In Kyoto, the ddd Gallery is hosting a solo exhibition for British typographer Alan Kitchen, marking his first major introduction to the Japanese public with works ranging from letterpress techniques to typographic maps.

Additionally, the “AMBIENT KYOTO - TOKYO” exhibition is touring at Azabudai Hills Gallery. This installation, titled “async - immersion,” is a collaboration between the late Ryuichi Sakamoto and Shiro Takatani, utilizing a large-scale screen and spatial audio to recreate the immersive world of Sakamoto’s 2017 album, “async.”
