Art exhibitions explore cultural heritage and identity in Morocco and Senegal
Two distinct art exhibitions are set to explore themes of identity, memory, and cultural connections.
In Morocco, photographer Abdallah Bouhamidi will present ‘Hidden/Hiding’ at Espace Rivages from October 15 to November 12, 2026. Organized by the Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans Residing Abroad, the monochrome photographic series examines urban spaces and the tension between visibility and concealment. Bouhamidi, a clinical psychologist based in Austria, draws on his diverse life experiences and travels to inform his work.
In Dakar, artist Amina Benbouchta will present ‘Like Any Others’ at OH Gallery from October 30, 2026, to February 6, 2027. Through painting, sculpture, and textile installations, the exhibition investigates the historical and cultural links between Senegal and Morocco. Benbouchta uses her own multi-cultural background to reflect on colonial legacies, gendered experiences, and the concept of thresholds between different identities.
