Art exhibitions explore regional identity and heritage in the Netherlands

Several art exhibitions are currently being held in the Netherlands, focusing on regional identity and traditional techniques.

In Hollum, artist Astrid Nobel is presenting ‘Walvistraan: de walvissen komen de boten van hun voorouders halen’ at Museum Sorgdrager until October 21. The exhibition features paintings and sculptures created using materials found on the beach and tidal flats. A key piece is a bed bench constructed using traditional 17th-century techniques, a skill Nobel learned through apprenticeship with her father, Klaas Nobel, to preserve family woodworking heritage.

In Eelderwolde, the exhibition ‘Blowing into the Fish’s Mouth’ is hosted at the Onlanderij. Developed by artists Samantha Pellarini and Jens J. T. Huls for the Into Nature art platform, the work explores the identity of the Onlanden landscape. The installation includes a presentation of letters and electromagnetic signals by Huls, alongside performances and explorations of the changing landscape by Pellarini.
