Art exhibitions scheduled for Sapporo and NSG Museum in late 2026

Two distinct art exhibitions are scheduled to take place in Japan in late 2026.

The ‘Mite wa Ikenai Kaiga-ten’ (Paintings You Should Not See) exhibition will be held at the Sapporo Factory 1-jo Building in Sapporo from October 2 to November 23, 2026. Following successful runs in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya that drew over 50,000 visitors, this exhibition features works that change in perception once their backgrounds are understood. The event includes an earphone guide voiced by Hiro Shimono.

Additionally, the NSG Museum will host the ‘Yuriko Tanaka Exhibition: My Trajectory — Painting Nihonga’ from October 17 to December 6, 2026. The exhibition showcases the 50-year career of Yuriko Tanaka, featuring her evolution from painting weeds and children to her more recent focus on marshes and landscapes in areas such as Saga.
