Art galleries in British Columbia launch new exhibitions

Several art institutions in British Columbia are launching new exhibitions this September. The Heritage Gallery, operated by the Lakes District Museum Society, has opened its final exhibition of the year, titled ‘Stitched Together: A Showcase of Community Quilters’. The collection includes quilts, wall hangings, and various textile items from artists of all ages and skill levels. The gallery reported a successful season, with over 540 visitors and nearly $4,000 in local art sales.

In Parksville, the McMillan Arts Centre (MAC) is hosting four new exhibitions. The Concert Gallery features ‘Momentary Connections: Fleeting Encounters that Echo in Memory’ by Peggy Arnett and Shannon McWhinney, focusing on brief interactions with the natural world. The Oceanside Gallery presents ‘Connections: Time and Place’ by Pam Vipond, Vera Lohse, and Margie Davidson, showcasing diverse fibre arts such as knitting, basketry, and embroidery. Additionally, the Nemeth Gallery is displaying ‘A Certain Wildness’ by Nanaimo-based painter Brad Scromeda, which explores the relationship between the human figure and its environment.
