Art Garfunkel reflects on his life after splitting with Paul Simon
Art Garfunkel has reflected on his “wilderness years” following his 1970 split from Paul Simon. During this period, Garfunkel attempted to lead a normal life by working as a geometry teacher in Litchfield, Connecticut, though he noted he struggled to motivate his students.
He also discussed personal hardships, including the 1979 death of his partner by overdose. To cope with the loss, Garfunkel engaged in long-distance walking, a practice inspired by a trip to Japan in 1982 that eventually led him to walk across the United States.
While Garfunkel and Simon have reconnected, he has downplayed the possibility of a musical reunion.
