Art market updates: New gallery representations and museum leadership
Several major shifts have occurred within the international art market involving gallery representation and museum leadership. The New York-based gallery Bortolami has begun representing painter Emily Sundblad, who will feature work at Art Basel Miami Beach in December.
Japanese artist Shigeo Otake has joined the White Cube gallery. Otake, known for surrealist-influenced paintings, is scheduled to present new works at Art Basel Paris and will hold a solo exhibition at Mason’s Yard in spring 2028.
Other notable industry moves include:
• Olney Gleason has added artist Kour Pour, with a solo exhibition planned for early 2027. • Hanna Hur has joined Greene Naftali. • Alexander Berggruen now represents sculptor Raul de Lara. • Jan Kaps has added Lukas Luzius Leichtle to its roster. • New York galleries Tanja Grunert and Fierman will share a space in Chinatown while maintaining separate programming.
In museum news, Mary Deleary of the Chippewas of the Thames will assume the directorship of the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on October 19.
