Artan Grubi under investigation for State Lottery irregularities
Former Deputy Prime Minister Artan Grubi remains under investigation in North Macedonia regarding alleged irregularities involving the State Lottery. The case involves suspected damages exceeding 8 million euros. Grubi, who recently returned to the country after a period abroad, is currently under house arrest and is reviewing evidence in the case.
Political reactions to the investigation have been divided. The party VLEN has called for judicial independence, stating that the government should not interfere in the prosecution's work and that charges should only be filed if sufficient evidence exists. Conversely, the political movement VREDI has criticized the prosecution for its slow pace, demanding transparency regarding why charges have not yet been filed despite the investigation lasting over a year.
The investigation also involves former State Lottery Director Perparim Bajrami, who remains a fugitive. Legal experts have noted the complexity of the case, questioning whether individual criminal responsibility can be assigned for decisions made by the government as a collective body during sessions presided over by Grubi.
