ARTE to premiere French historical series ‘Die Revoluzzer’
The French historical dramedy series ‘Die Revoluzzer’ is making its German television premiere on ARTE. The eight-part production, directed by Benjamin Charbit and Dominique Baumard, depicts the true history of the University of Vincennes.
Set in 1969 following the nationwide protests of May 1968, the series explores an anti-authoritarian, self-managed educational experiment. The university serves as a gathering point for various groups, including communists and Maoists, attempting to study without social classes or hierarchies.
The narrative also covers the surveillance of the institution by the conservative government under Charles de Gaulle. This includes official monitoring and undercover spying, such as the character Claudine, who is sent into the university as a spy but eventually becomes a prominent figure at the institution.
