Artelia acquires Portuguese engineering firm Sopsec
The French multinational Artelia has acquired 100% of the Portuguese civil engineering firm Sopsec, based in Vila Nova de Gaia. The transaction, which was advised by Clearwater International, aims to consolidate Artelia’s presence in the Iberian Peninsula and strengthen its market position across Europe.
While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, the acquisition is expected to create synergies between Sopsec and Artelia’s various European subsidiaries in countries including France, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, and the Czech Republic.
Sopsec, founded in 1988 by engineers from the University of Porto, reported a turnover of 8.1 million euros last year. During the transition phase, Artelia will share leadership with Sopsec’s co-founders. The move is intended to help the Portuguese firm address challenges such as internationalization and investment in artificial intelligence.
