Artem Chekh’s ‘Zero Point’ released by Matica Makedonska

Matica Makedonska has released a new edition of ‘Zero Point’ (Točka Nula), an award-winning autobiographical work by Ukrainian writer Artem Chekh. The book provides a deeply human perspective on war, drawing from Chekh’s military service between May 2015 and July 2016.

Through a blend of notes, conversations, and observations, the prose captures the internal lives of those experiencing conflict, focusing on themes of friendship, absurdity, and the psychological shifts caused by extreme circumstances. The title refers to both the front line and the internal boundary of self-re-examination.

Originally published in Ukraine in 2017, the work received the ‘LitAkcent of the Year’ award for essayism and literary reportage. It was also a finalist for the ‘Ryszard Kapuściński’ award following its Polish translation. Chekh is also recognized as the winner of the 2021 BBC Ukrainian ‘Book of the Year’ for his novel ‘Who Are You?’.
