Artemis II crew visits Colorado after lunar mission
The Artemis II crew, which recently completed a 10-day mission circling the Moon, made a public appearance at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado on August 3. Approximately 8,500 people gathered to greet Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, and Mission Specialists Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen.
This mission marked the first crewed flight beyond low Earth orbit in 53 years. During the journey, the crew utilized the Orion capsule to capture images of the Moon’s far side, a region not visible from Earth. Commander Wiseman described the experience of seeing these views as indescribable, noting that the crew observed sights never before seen by humans, including during the Apollo era.
The mission concluded with the Orion capsule splashing down in the Pacific Ocean near the coast of San Diego, where NASA and U.S. military teams recovered the astronauts.
