Arteris traffic drops by half after Brazil toll road auctions
Brazilian toll‑road operator Arteris lost its two busiest federal concessions – Fernão Dias (BR‑381) and Régis Bittencourt (BR‑116) – in competitive auctions run by the transport regulator ANTT. The two highways together carried about 376.5 million vehicle‑equivalents in 2025, roughly 47 % of Arteris’s total traffic and a major source of EBITDA.
Motiva Infraestrutura de Mobilidade won the Fernão Dias concession with a 17.05 % toll discount, while the EPR consortium (Equipav and Perfin) secured Régis Bittencourt with a 22.53 % discount. Arteris will receive at least R$295 million for Fernão Dias and an inflation‑adjusted sum near R$400 million for Régis Bittencourt, but its portfolio shrinks to the remaining federal concessions (Litoral Sul, Planalto Sul, Fluminense) and several state toll roads in São Paulo. The loss represents a dramatic reduction in the company’s traffic base and future revenue potential.
