Artesa Winery sold by Codorníu to Jean-Charles Boisset

The Codorníu Raventós group has announced the sale of its California-based Artesa Winery to Jean-Charles Boisset, owner of the French wine group Boisset. The divestment is part of a strategic review intended to focus the company’s investments and resources on priority regions.

Artesa Winery, originally founded in 1991 as Codorníu Napa, encompasses 140 hectares of vineyards across Napa’s Los Carneros and Mt. Veeder appellations. The acquisition includes the property’s distinctive pyramid-shaped winery. While the financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, the sale comes as the US wine industry faces challenges, including declining sales volumes and excess inventory.

Codorníu’s CEO, Sergio Fuster, stated that the company did not rule out further specific divestments in non-strategic segments. Meanwhile, the company’s main shareholder, the American fund Carlyle, continues to seek a buyer for its more than 60% stake in the group.
